DOTC-PCG: The Philippine Coast Guard continues its search for a passenger of MV St. Thomas Aquinas who reportedly jumped overboard while the cargo/passenger vessel was underway from Manila to Cebu yesterday, 16 July.
The information was received from Peter Tacsay, Operations Manager of 2GO Group Incorporation, the owner and operator of MV St. Thomas Aquinas.
According to Capt. Reynan L. Bermejo, skipper of MV St. Thomas Aquinas, the passenger who jumped overboard is identified as Shymmie Bogawet, 19, and a resident of Bicol Leyte Street, Mangahan in Commonwealth, Quezon City.
She was wearing white short and black jacket when the incident occurred off the southwestern portion of North Gigantes Island in Carles, Iloilo. She was described to be of medium built, 4'11 in height, black hair and brown complexion.
Capt. Bermejo conducted a two-hour search and rescue operation but decided to resume with her voyage when the SAR yielded negative results.
Immediately, Coast Guard Station (CGS) Iloilo directed Coast Guard Detachment (CGDet) Estancia to organize a search and rescue team and inform the nearby Local Government Units (LGU) and motorbanca operators to be on the look-out on the said victim.
CGDet Estancia organized a search and rescue team composed of personnel from Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) 3010, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) and personnel of CGDet Estancia. However, due to poor visibility, the team temporarily terminated search and rescue operation.Share
