REAR ADMIRAL RODOLFO DIWATA ISORENA PCG is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) belonging to the “SANDIGAN” Class of 1982. He hails from the Province of Virac, Catanduanes. A product of the Public School System, he was in First Year College taking up Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminology when he successfully passed the stringent written and physical examinations for Cadetship at PMA. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the Philippine Navy (PN) in 1982 and was assigned with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) since 1993.
RADM ISORENA is presently the Commander of the Coast Guard Fleet, the largest unit of the PCG composed of highly technical and specialized operating units such as the Coast Guard Aviation Group; Coast Guard Ready Force (All Vessels of PCG); the Special Operations Group; and the Coast Guard K-9.
Significant Positions and Assignments
A esteemed and dedicated leader, RADM ISORENA was designated District Commander of four (4) Coast Guard Districts namely: Coast Guard District South Western Mindanao (based in Zamboanga City); Coast Guard District National Capital Region-Central Luzon (in acting capacity and based in Manila); Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (based in Batangas City) and Coast Guard District Bicol (based in Legazpi City). He was also entrusted positions of major responsibility in the Major Commands of the PCG such as the Coast Guard Education and Training Command and as the Chief of Coast Guard Staff of the Philippine Coast Guard. He was Station Commander of two (2) Coast Guard Stations; Coast Guard Station Subic and Coast Guard Station Legazpi.
RADM ISORENA completed his Shipboard tour of duty as Commanding Officer of four (4) Coast Guard Vessels: BRP CORREGIDOR (AE-891); BRP EDSA II (SARV-002-in acting capacity); BRP ROMBLON (AU-3503); and BRP ILOCOS NORTE (AU-3501-in acting capacity) where he earned his coveted Command-at-Sea Badge.
As a Junior Officer, he served as Staff Officer in District Level as well as in Headquarters, PCG. It was during his incumbency as Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, Programs and International Affairs (CG-5) when the 15-Year PCG Capability Development Plan was crafted and approved which served as the backbone of the PCG Development especially in the procurement and acquisition of Floating and Air Assets including Real Estates.
RADM ISORENA is a holder of Master of Science Degree in Maritime Affairs majoring in Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection (MSEP) from the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmo, Sweden. His other foreign schoolings and trainings are: Urban Patrol Operations Course (Anti-Terrorism) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, Special Weapon and Tactics Training, Maritime Pollution and Maritime Search and Rescue Courses with the Japan Coast Guard, Technical Training Course on Navigational Aids and Maritime Law Enforcement Course also in Japan; Life-Saving Equipment Course in Esberg, Denmark and Port Security Planning and Assessment with the US Coast Guard in Malmo, Sweden.
His local schoolings and career courses are; the Naval Intelligence Officers Course; the Naval Command and Staff Course; and the Coast Guard Station Commanders Course where he consistently placed among the top graduates of these courses.
Awards and Decorations
RADM ISORENA’S outstanding performances and achievements were recognized with numerous awards, decorations and commendations. Notable among these are three (3) Coast Guard Legion of Honors (Degree of Maginoo) four (4) Distinguished Service Medals, Outstanding Achievement Medal, two (2) Gawad Sa Kaunlaran Medals, Bronze Cross Medal, two (2) Coast Guard Search and Rescue Medals, twelve (12) Coast Guard Merit Medals, seven (7) Military Merit Medals, six (6) Military Commendation Medals, a Coast Guard Commendation Medal and Several other Medals and Ribbons. He also received scores of Plaques / Certificate of Recognition / Appreciation and Letters of Commendation from various Government and Civic Organizations.
