Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo announces today the entrance examinations for the additional five hundred personnel allotted for this year  for the   Philippine Coast Guard to be held on February 12  at all Coast Guard Districts offices nationwide.

Captain Angelito Gil, chief of the PCG personnel and human resources management  office said that out of the 500 applicants, fifty slots will be  for the officers while four hundred fifty will be for the enlisted personnel. The applicants will initially take the PCG Aptitude Battery test and the medical examinations after passing the written exams. Those applying for the officer’s exam must be licensed holder or have passed the required board examinations in their respective profession. They must also be natural born citizen, single, physically and mentally fit, 20 -26 years old and with good moral character. For the enlisted personnel, applicants must at least with 72 college units or at least with skills relevant to the Coast Guard functions or with baccalaureate degree. Natural born citizen, single, physically and mentally fit, 18-24 years old and with good moral character.
Prospective applicants may download application form at the PCG website and must prepare NSO birth certificate, transcript of records, diploma and two 2x2 pictures to be submitted at the day of the examination.

Capt Gil also said that based on the guidance of the PCG leadership and in consideration of the organization as a sea going agency, maritime related courses like merchant marine, transportation and naval architects are given priority in the application.  But PCG is also accepting l engineering graduates, biologist, oceanologist, fishery related courses, Lawyers, doctors, dentist, veterinarians. Graduates of communications, computer, accounting and health sciences may also apply. For enlisted personnel, those TESDA certified course or with two-year vocational courses are also accepted for the examinations. The successful applicants will undergo a thorough physical and medical check up and a six to nine month training which will cover classroom instructions and on the job training on board Coast Guard vessels.
The current gross salary of Ensign (second lieutenant in the army) is twenty nine thousand pesos a month while the lowest rank enlisted personnel takes seventeen thousand pesos gross in his monthly pay check.

The recruitment of additional personnel of the Coast Guard is sanctioned under the 2011 national budget as part of the agency’s personnel and capability build up. The passage of the PCG law this year fortifying its mandate on maritime safety, security, law enforcement, marine environmental protection and search and rescue has made it imperative for the improvement of its human resource assets
