More than 12,000 Applicants take PCG Exam PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 February 2011 12:21

Yesterday, some 12,487 applicants proceeded to the Coast Guard Districts’ examination centers and took the admission test for commissionship and enlistment in the PCG. This remarkable turnout of applicants for membership in the Coast Guard service is the highest in PCG history. Before this year’s exam, the highest was only a little above the average of 4,000 applicants. This means that the PCG is fast becoming a service of choice among the young aspirants. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said however that the PCG’s current budget under Personal Services can only accommodate an additional 500 uniformed personnel this year plus 72 more to fill up vacancies or replace the number of retirees. Admiral Tamayo said the PCG is happy with the increase in their budget this year but that he is hoping that the lawmakers will continue to support the cause for a strong PCG in terms of its annual budget.

Admiral Tamayo has likewise emphasized that the PCG will continue to give premium to human resource development thru recruitment and training or personnel so that the PCG can better serve the nation by ensuring safe, clean and secure maritime transportation system. He said the PCG as a multi-mission maritime agency will continue to improve on its 5Ps namely PRESENCE, PREPAREDNESS, PARTNERSHIP, PROFESSIONALISM and PASSION TO SERVE to virtually meet DOTC Secretary Ping De Jesus’ Marching Order, specifically Zero Maritime Accident Program through more integrated and innovative promotion of safety of life and property at sea, protection of the marine environment, and security of shipping and maritime facilities.
