Under Article X1, Section 7 of the Republic Act 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law stated that the Philippine Coast Guard shall establish a regional office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region which shall be organized, maintained, supervised, and utilized for the primary purpose of law enforcement over coast guard matters. It shall be under the direct operational and administrative control and supervision of the Philippine Coast Guard.
The Philippine Coast Guard activated Coast Guard District Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on December 14, 2020. This is the 15th Coast Guard district over the country and the 6th Coast Guard District in the entire region of Mindanao. Covering the area of Maguindanao, Lanao Del Sur, Basilan (except Isabela City), Sulu and Tawi tawi.
The Coast Guard District Bangsanoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao presently has seven (7) Stations namely Coast Guard Station Cotabato, Coast Guard Station Western Sulu, Coast Guard Station Northern Tawi-Tawi, Coast Guard Station Western Tawi-Tawi, Coast Guardd Station Central Tawi-tawi and Coast Guard Station Basih-Balan, Coast Guard station Eastern Sulu and twenty-one (21) substations.
The Coast Guard District Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is currently located at Polloc Freeport and Ecozone, Parang, Maguindanao.
