The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has received another asset that will significantly improve its HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE AND DISASTER RESPONSE OPERATIONS!
On 21 March 2022, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M Abu personally accepted ONE UNIT OF 8.9-METER RIGID HULL INFLATABLE BOAT (RHIB) donated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – Philippines at the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila.
Commander of Maritime Security and Law Enforcement Command, CG Rear Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan joined the PCG Commandant in welcoming IOM Deputy Director General for Management and Reform Amy Pope who graced the handover ceremony.
“We have seen how the PCG has been at the frontline of the COVID-19 response, reaching far-flung areas and delivering assistance to the most vulnerable people in the country. The IOM has been proud to be your partner. We are proud of your efforts in preventing loss of lives, conducting evacuations and rescue operations, and transporting relief supplies after the onslaught of Typhoon Odette,” IOM Deputy Director General Pope said.
German Ambassador to the Philippines Anke Reiffenstuel also graced the event to express the Embassy’s continuous trust and support to the PCG.
“I am always deeply impressed by the work and commitment of the PCG. Thank you very much for your support, especially on the implementation of the repatriation program. I am glad and proud that Germany has entered into a strong partnership with the PCG, especially in the field of maritime security operations,” the German Ambassador expressed.
For his part, CG Admiral Abu conveyed his utmost gratitude to the IOM Philippines and the German Embassy Manila for being active partners of the PCG in conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations, as well as maritime security operations in the vast waters of the country.
The handover ceremony ended with the signing of the deed of donation and blessing of the RHIB.
