The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has investigated the presence of liquid waste at the vicinity waters off Manila Bay, specifically near the Manila Yacht Club, yesterday, 25 April 2021.
The Marine Environmental Protection Group (MEPGRP) – Manila and PCG Sub-Station CCP inspected suspected vessel, MV Sarangani and found out that the only crewmember on board was oiler, Escolastico Bunyi who also served as the caretaker.
During ocular inspection, the PCG discovered that the source of the liquid waste was the cooling system of MV Sarangani.
The team collected samples to determine the cause of water discoloration surrounding the vessel. They also issued an Inspection Apprehension Report (IAR) to MV Sarangani through its owner, Emil Neri for violating PCG’s Memorandum Circular Number 01 – 2005 Paragraph 4 on marine pollution.
