Following the recently concluded special radio operator’s course, ANGELS OF THE SEA, BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) conducted radio communications training during its maritime exercise and patrol in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) on 27 June to 01 July 2021.

Said training honed the skills of BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409)’s male and female officers and crew members in communicating with Filipino and foreign vessels, while upholding peace and maritime safety in the country’s sensitive maritime frontiers.

In order to promote safety of navigation and a peaceful, rules-based order at sea, radio communication messages were broadcast to five Chinese and two Vietnamese fishing vessels anchored within the vicinity waters of Marie Louise Bank situated 147 nautical miles off El Nido, Palawan during its routine exercise in Kalayaan Island Group (KIG).

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel received no response, but the foreign vessels dispersed and left the area after radio communication messages were issued.

BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) is one of the Task Force Pagsasanay’s participating vessels deployed on a rotational basis to conduct shipboard capacity and capability enhancement program and patrol in the WPS.

As the primary maritime agency in the country, the PCG in Palawan continues to conduct various trainings to strengthen its maritime law enforcement, safety, and security functions through conduct of joint patrols, maritime domain and situational awareness, as well as to protect the productive fishing zone and rich biodiversity of the WPS.
