The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Northwestern Luzon has conducted water search and rescue (WASAR) training for 28 local surfers and surfing instructors in San Juan, La Union on 25 to 30 July 2021.

Commander of the PCG District Northwestern Luzon, Commodore Inocencio Rosario Jr urged the students to keep on improving their skills so they could support the PCG in upholding safety of lives and boosting local tourism in La Union.

The participating local surfers and surfing instructors performed simulation exercises on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), underwater knot tying, lifesaving techniques, rescue approaches, and one-mile endurance swim.

The five-day initiative was made successful with the cooperation of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the local government unit of San Juan, La Union.
