Personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station in Western Samar continue search and rescue (SAR) operation for the three missing fishermen of Sierra Island, Catbalogan City, Samar today, 09 September 2021.
The missing fishermen are identified as Mr. Carpio Labungay and Mr. Milan Sano of Barangay Mombon, Sierra Island, Catbalogan City, Samar, and Mr. Jeffrey Espino of Barangay Bagacay, Daram, Samar.
Together with five other companions, they went fishing on 06 September 2021 and failed to return home.
The PCG Station Western Samar coordinated with PCG Sub-Station Daram and PCG Sub-Station Tarangan for the activation of a SAR team.
At around 11:00 a.m. on 07 September 2021, a concerned citizen of Barangay Losa, Daram, Samar reported that four out of eight missing fishermen identified as Mr. Bernard Labongray, Mr. Elmer Delos Santos, Mr. Elizer Delos Santos, and Mr. Ricarte Labongray were drifted at the said coastal barangay. They were all in good physical condition and were brought back to their residences.
Meanwhile, the local government unit (LGU) of Barangay Sto. NiƱo, Samar rescued the fifth fisherman, Mr. Ruben Sano who was also in good physical condition.
The PCG Station Western Samar advised fishermen and coastal community residents to be on the lookout and report to the nearest PCG unit possible sightings of the three missing fishermen.
