The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) participated in the DISMANTLING OF 32 ILLEGALLY STRUCTURED FISH CAGES AND STATIONARY FISH TRAPS at the vicinity waters off Cavite City today, 04 November 2021.
Together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the LGU of Cavite City, the PCG warned the owners of the concerned fish cages and stationary fish traps to conduct SELF-DISMANTLING on 25 October 2021.
Ten days later, a follow-up operation was conducted to ensure compliance with the said order.
The PCG continues to deploy forces to assist the DENR and the LGU of Cavite City in monitoring and filing cases against owners of illegally structured fish cages and stationary fish traps at the vicinity waters of the City.
The joint operation of the PCG and DENR is in line with the Supreme Court ruling to 13 government agencies regarding the Writ of Mandamus in the prevention of Manila Bay Pollution and Republic Act No. 9993 or the Philippine Coast Guard Law of 2009.
The said agencies are authorized to remove floating hazards to navigation, including illegal fish structures and vessels, at or close to sea lanes which may cause hazards to the marine environment.
