The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued four crew members of a half-submerged motorbanca, MB KIRAY at the vicinity waters approximately 15 nautical miles north off Palaui Island, Sta Ana, Cagayan, on 20 March 2023.
While traversing the vicinity waters en route to Babuyan Claro, the motorbanca's starboard bow was accidentally hit by a dolphin, causing MB KIRAY to become half-submerged.
The crew threw some cargo into the water to control the situation while waiting for the PCG Sub-Station Sta. Ana's search and rescue (SAR) team.
The four crew members were in good physical condition, but MB KIRAY was declared "abandoned" by the captain due to difficulties in towing the distressed motorbanca towards the nearest shoreline.
