The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has urged maritime stakeholders and concerned government agencies to collaborate to preserve and secure the country's marine resources and maritime jurisdiction.

DOTr Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Sarmiento said the collaboration will elevate the Philippines' maritime industry to global standards while guaranteeing enhanced passenger experience.

"Collaboration lends timely support to the efforts of the DOTr at pushing for much-needed reforms to an industry charged with the cost-efficient and safe movement of people and goods across our archipelago," Usec. Sarmiento said during the launching of BEACON 2023: the maritime league expo on board BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301).

Usec. Sarmiento also urged The Maritime League to help the DOTr identify international maritime standards, "which we can benchmark the operations of our agencies towards enhancing the level of passenger and customer service."

The Philippine Coast Guard(PCG), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) are also working together to protect the country's marine resources as well as the mobility and connectivity in the entire archipelago, he said.

"We should not abandon blue economy advocacy over the pursuit of rapid progress," Usec. Sarmiento emphasized.

An initiative of The Maritime League in partnership with the DOTr, the BEACON 2023 aims to advance the interests of the Philippine Maritime sector through information sharing, marine technology exhibits, and participation of maritime industry leaders and government managers.
