The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is more than ready for the influx of passengers during the holiday rush, providing a safe, efficient and comfortable experience for all travelers this Christmas season.
During his inspection at the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) headquarters today, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista directed the PCG to intensify its visibility to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of millions of sea passengers who are expected to flock to port terminals this holiday season.
"As early as December 15, Coast Guardians in 15 PCG Districts nationwide shall intensify the Coast Guard presence and visibility. The PCG shall remain on heightened alert until January 8 of next year targeting "zero maritime incidents" within this critical period," the Secretary said.
The Transport Chief also commanded the PCG led by PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan to implement intensified operations such as stricter pre-departure inspections onboard passenger and cargo vessels, 24/7 K9 paneling within the port vicinity, additional sea marshal deployment, and expanded coastal security patrols.
All Coast Guard vessels and air assets shall also be on alert for immediate deployment.
