Two persons were put into safety after a boat went half-submerged at approximately 12 nautical miles at vicinity waters South of Cabra Island, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro this morning, 13 April 2024 around 8AM.

After receipt of information, personnel of Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Lubang immediately coordinated with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) Lubang for the availability of a sea ambulance to launch a search and rescue operation for Fishing banca "Rex and Roy" with two fishermen.

The Coast Guard and PDRRMO sighted a half-submerged boat and provided immediate assistance to the fishermen, identified as Mr Joel Damalerio (80 y.o.) and Mr Rolan Ranque (51 y.o.), both residents of Barangay Aroma, Tayamaan, Mamburao. Both were found in good physical condition.

After executing successful rescue operations, the search and rescue team towed the fishing banca to safety and securely anchored it to the nearest payaw for temporary shelter.

A payaw is a type of artificial reef structure used in fishing typically consists of bamboo poles or stakes anchored to the seabed often used to attract fish and improve fish catch.

The team brought the rescued fishermen to the Rural Health Unit for further medical assessment.
