Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, graced the reactivation ceremony of the Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV) in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, yesterday, 03 October 2024.

The said Coast Guard District was reactivated when President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr signed and approved Republic Act (RA) No. 12000, an act establishing the Negros Island Region (NIR), on 11 June 2024.

In his speech, Admiral Gavan challenged the newly installed CGDSV Commander, Commodore Ludovico Librilla Jr PCG, and Coast Guard Auxiliary District Southern Visayas Acting Director, Auxiliary Commodore Dannyl Yap PCGA, to expand Coast Guard operations in the region.

For his part, Commodore Librilla thanked the Commandant for the opportunity to lead the CGDSV and promised to give his best to make the District one of the effective major units of the Coast Guard.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV) Commander, Commodore Weniel Azcuna PCG, shared that the event was a pivotal point in enhancing maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship in the NIR.

Currently, the CGDSV has four stations namely: Coast Guard Station Northern Negros Occidental (CGS NNOC), Coast Guard Station Southern Negros Occidental (CGS SNOC), Coast Guard Station (CGS) Dumaguete, and Coast Guard Station (CGS) Siquijor.

The said stations presented a memento to Admiral Gavan, symbolizing their dedication to duty, hardwork, and the Coast Guard service.

Also in attendance were Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV) Commander, Commodore Christopher Meniado PCG, Office of the Command Master Chief, First Master Chief Petty Officer (FMCPO) Virgilio Casamar PCG, and PCG Auxiliary National Director, Auxiliary Vice Admiral Jorge Lim PCGA.
