The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301), and Indonesia Coast Guard (BAKAMLA RI) ship, KN Singa Laut (402), successfully conducted a Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) in the vicinity waters off Manado, Indonesia, on 30 November 2024.

The capacity building activity simulated real-life scenarios which underscored a collaborative effort to enhance the preparedness and coordination of PCG and BAKAMLA RI's respective emergency response teams in conducting rescue operations.

The exercise ended with coordinated patrol within the borders of the Philippines and Indonesia, which was the first activity between the two country's coast guards after the signing of the Philippine Maritime Zones Act or Republic Act 12064 by President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.
