The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) have seized three commercial fishing vessels for illegal fishing activities within the municipal waters of Navotas City on 05 December 2024.

The BFAR-MCS 3009 under the Command Captain Jomark Angue PCG in collaboration with the Coast Guard Station Manila under the leadership of Captain Vincent Laca PCG apprehended the vessels for violating the Fisheries Code of the Philippines (RA 10654).

First Vessel: Violated Sections 86(a) and 95 for commercial fishing and using active gears within municipal waters. Maximum fine: β‚±250,000.

Second Vessel: Violated Sections 86(a), 95, and 89(a) for commercial fishing, using active gears, and lacking the required licenses. Maximum fine: β‚±450,000.

Third Vessel: Violated Sections 86(a), 95, and 155 for commercial fishing, using active gears, and evading authorities in a dangerous hot pursuit. Maximum fine: β‚±1.1 million.

Captain Angue PCG emphasized that the operation reflects the PCG’s commitment to protecting the nation’s fisheries and ensuring maritime safety.

As of press time, the vessels and their crew members are undergoing legal proceedings.
