The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has welcomed BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) following its five-day Manado, Indonesia Port Visit at Pier 13, Port Area, Manila, today, 09 December 2024.

As the current Chairman of the ASEAN Coast Guard Forum (ACF), PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, said that the port visit underscored the PCG’s commitment to advancing maritime safety, security, and prosperity in the region through strategic cooperation and collaboration.

The Coast Guard Commandant emphasized that the fruitful exchange with the Indonesian counterparts has reinforced the maritime partnerships between two nations, underscoring the collective pursuit of peace, security, and sustainable progress within the ASEAN community.

β€œBehind this accomplishment lies the unwavering professionalism of the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard, whose tireless efforts have made this mission a resounding success. These personnel represent the core values of service, integrity, and honor, upholding the mission of the PCG both at home and on the international stage," Admiral Gavan expressed.

For his part, BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) Commanding Officer, Captain Lawrence Roque PCG, extended his gratitude to Coast Guard senior officers for their leadership and trust. He also thanked the crew for their dedication and camaraderie during the mission.

β€œSa ating pagbabalik, dalhin natin ang mga aral na ating natutunan, ang mga ugnayang ating pinatatag, at ang patuloy na gabay ng Diyos sa ating misyon. Together let us remain steadfast in ensuring peace and security in our seas."

In 2014, the Philippines and Indonesia signed a boundary delimitation agreement and the coordinated patrol conducted was the first activity between the two country’s coast guards after the signing of the Philippine Maritime Zones Act or Republic Act 12064 by President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.

Admiral Gavan said the PCG plans similar engagements with Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration and people-to-people exchange to address shared maritime concerns effectively.
