Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon has presided over the donning and oath-taking ceremony of the first Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) female aviator as she received the one-star rank of βCommodoreβ in San Juan City, Metro Manila, on 20 May 2025.
Upon Secretary Dizonβs recommendation, President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. approved the promotion of Captain Christine Pauline BergaΓ±o-Diciano PCG to the next higher rank on 14 May 2025.
It was followed by the arrival honor and breaking of personal flag ceremonies at the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila.
On behalf of PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, Deputy Commandant for Administration, Rear Admiral Joeven Fabul PCG, presided over the event.
βI am proud to say that today is a celebration of progress. Continue to lead, continue to mentor, and to make a lasting impact. I have full confidence in your ability to rise to the challenge and to continue setting the standard for others to follow,β Rear Admiral Fabul expressed.
For her part, Leadership and Doctrine Development Center (DDC) Director, Commodore BergaΓ±o-Diciano, shared some milestones in her PCG journey, specifically how she overcame the challenges through the support of her family and colleagues, and the lessons she acquired along the way.
βLearning is only real if it drives action and evolution as change is the end result of all the true learning,β she said.
βThere is no service so small. So, in all chances, choices, and changes, own it. In all blessings and miracles, I will remember my core and serve. Like everyone, we are here with everything and enough and with all entrustments from God,β Commodore BergaΓ±o-Diciano ended.
