The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) congratulates Probationary Ensign (P/ENS) John Rex Adong Gaviola, who earned the distinction of Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering, as part of the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) Class of 2025.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. supports career development and capacity building programs of coastguardians towards becoming efficient public servants of the Filipino nation.

P/ENS Gaviola, a scholar under the PCG’s International Cadetship Program since 2021, marched alongside 262 graduates during the USCGA’s 144th Commencement Exercises held in New London, Connecticut, U.S.A., on 21 May 2025.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Commandant, Admiral Kevin Lunday USCG, graced the event.

On behalf of PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, Coast Guard Education, Training and Doctrine Command (CGETDC) Acting Commander, Rear Admiral Tito Alvin Andal PCG, represented the PCG during the graduation ceremony.

Upon his return to the Philippines, P/ENS Gaviola will be commissioned into the Coast Guard service with the rank of Ensign.
