Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) has aided a distressed Filipino fishing boat (FFB) John John 3 in the vicinity waters of Palauig Point, Zambales, yesterday, 01 June 2025.

The request for assistance occurred while the said 44-meter multi-role response vessel (MRRV) was conducting a maritime patrol, anchored on the directive of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr for the PCG to ensure maritime safety and security within the country’s waters.

According to FFB John John 3’s crew, they encountered engine trouble while conducting fishing operations.

BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) responded to the distress call amid the prevailing adverse sea condition and poor visibility. Upon locating the concerned FFB, the PCG team confirmed that all eight crew members on board remained safe and in good physical condition.

The 44-meter Coast Guard vessel successfully towed FFB John John 3 after a 12-hour operation from Palauig Point to Subic Fish Port. The Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zambales also provided further assistance to the eight crew members on board.

PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG, has lauded BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409)’s crew for their selfless service and professionalism that led to the swift and safe delivery of needed Coast Guard service.

β€œThe bad weather and tough sea condition snapped the towing line twice, but our brave coastguardians on board BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) carried on their mission of ensuring safety of lives and properties at sea,” Admiral Gavan said.

β€œMay their dedication to our noble cause further inspire fellow public servants to put service above personal interests for the benefit of the Filipino nation,” the Coast Guard Commandant furthered.
