Department of Transportation (DOTr), Secretary Vivencio Dizon conducted an inspection and site visit at the newly operational Amandayehan Port in Basey, Samar on 8 June 2025.

The inspection is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. to ensure safe, secure, and convenient travel for the public in airports, seaports, and railways nationwide.

According to the Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas (CGDEV), the visit marked the ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime connectivity between Amandayehan and Tacloban ports, offering an alternative route for cargo trucks amid the San Juanico Bridge crisis.

During the inspection, Secretary Dizon, together with CGDEV personnel and other key officials, discussed the success of the newly established Landing Craft Tank (LCT) vessel routes. They also identified areas for improvement to streamline the transport process and prepare for its planned 24-hour operation.

Secretary Dizon expressed his appreciation for the PCG's support in route plotting, buoy installation, and maintaining maritime safety, which are critical elements that contributed to the successful opening and operation of the port.

CGDEV continues to work closely with partner NGAs and LGUs to address the transport challenges caused by the ongoing San Juanico Bridge situation, upholding the mandated functions of the PCG in Eastern Visayas.
