Cadet Hannah Angela Arribas and Cadet Nizene Jake Coyme has commenced their cadetship at the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, Connecticut, United States, on 30 June 2025.

Said pursuit is a means of further building and strengthening the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)'s manpower and capability, reflecting President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr.’s commitment to enhancing maritime security and operational readiness.

On their Reporting Day for Swab Summer, 265 newly reported cadets or swabs completed their administrative processing and had their swearing-in ceremony as cadets of the United States of America with USCGA’s Superintendent, Rear Admiral Michael Johnston USCG.

The Swab Summer is a seven-week rigorous military training that marks the start of their four-year cadetship in the Academy.

Cadet Arribas and Cadet Coyme were among the seven chosen international cadets of the USCGA in its International Cadetship Program, which promotes cooperation among the allied countries of the USA and their respective maritime organizations with the USCG.

Aside from the Philippines, international cadets from Ecuador, Tunisia, and Jordan were also selected and appointed.

A week before the start of their swab summer the international cadets were given an adjustment period and orientation program by the USCGA.

After the swearing-in ceremony, the Class of 2029 was also given a 15-minute send-off to spend with their families and friends who will be temporarily separated from their respective cadets.

The International Council and sponsor parents of the cadets also showed their support to the international cadets who are all far away from their home countries.

Upon graduation, Cadet Arribas and Cadet Coyme will be commissioned into the PCG service as regular Coast Guard officers with the rank of Ensign and render at least eight continuous public service.

Cadet Arribas and Cadet Coyme were accompanied by LTJG Neil Karlo Olegario, the PCG Liaison Officer to the USCGA International Cadetship Program.

With their recent addition, the PCG currently has nine cadets studying at the USCGA. Among their cadres during the Phase 1 of Swab Summer is PCG Cadet 2nd Class Daniel Francis Sales.
