The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) welcomed the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Search and Rescue Operations (SAROPS) Team delegates aimed at enhancing maritime incident response and strengthening bilateral cooperation at in its headquarters in Batangas on July 25, 2025.

The site visit was led by Mr. Douglas Samp, USCG Pacific Area SAR Program Manager, Mr. Scott Giard, Joint Rescue Coordinating Center Seattle SAR Program Manager, and USCG SAROPS officials. The meeting was attended by officials from the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Maritime Safety Services (CG-8) led by Captain Jomark Angue PCG, together with and Captain Orly Wong PCG.

The meeting served as a platform to exchange best practices and operational experiences on key topics such as maritime distress response, radio communication, and the Philippine Coast Guard's (PCG) operational procedures during emergencies.

To conclude the engagement, the USCG conducted a practical demonstration for CGDSTL personnel on the operation of their advanced search and rescue systems. The hands-on training focused on improving response efficiency during maritime incidents, equipping CGDSTL responders with enhanced skills and techniques to act swiftly and effectively in times of distress.

CGDSTL District Commander Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla expressed his sincere appreciation for the visit and the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with counterparts. This collaborative exchange underscores the shared commitment of both nation to uphold maritime safety and security across the region.
