The United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) has invited the Philippine Coast Guard for nomination for candidates for the International Cadet Program of the USCGA Class of 2024 which will start on June 2020 until 2024 at New London, Connecticut, USA.
This program is open to qualified civilian applicants nationwide.
One of the federal service academies in the United States, the USCGA offers a four-year program with an intensive undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with nine majors: Civil Engineering, Cyber Systems, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Operations Research and Computer Analysis, Marine and Environmental Sciences, Government, Mechanical Engineering and Management.
Successful applicants to this program will be admitted as regular cadet at the said academy and are subject to applicable USCGA regulations covering class attendance, discipline, and graduation requirements. They will be provided with free tuition, monthly pay and allowances, free board and lodging, transportation expenses and government benefits.
Upon graduation, Filipino cadets will be commissioned in the PCG as regular Coast Guard officer with the rank of Ensign.

INVITATION TO U.S. COAST GUARD ACADEMY CLASS OF 2024 INTERNATIONAL CADET PROGRAM
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is inviting the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to send nomination to the International Cadet Program of USCG Academy Class of 2024 to start on June 2020 until 2024 at U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut, USA. This program is open to qualified civilian applicants. Successful applicants to this program will be provided with free tuition, monthly pay and allowances, free board and lodging, transportation expenses and other government benefits. Successful applicants will be admitted as regular cadet at the USCG Academy and are subject to applicable USCG Academy regulations covering class attendance, discipline, resignation, and graduation requirements. Upon graduating from USCG Academy, Filipino Cadets will be commissioned in the PCG as regular Coast Guard Officer with a rank of Ensign and will serve for eight (8) continuous years of service in the PCG.
BACKGROUND
The USCG Academy is one of the five federal service academies in the US. It offers an outstanding four-year program with an intensive undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree. Its curriculum is weighted heavily toward mathematics, science and engineering courses. Following are its nine majors:

The program also consists of formal classroom training in subjects such as navigation and law enforcement supplemented by summer programs that include general shipboard and aviation training, seagoing experience aboard the USCG training ship Barque Eagle, military training, and other operational experience.
An integral part of the USCGA program is a rigorous physical education and physical fitness program which demands that candidates arrive in good physical condition, able to run, swim, and perform calisthenics.

QUALIFICATIONS
Interested applicants to this program should meet the following qualifications:
1. Natural born Filipino Citizen
2. Must not be less than seventeen (17) years old or more than twenty-two (22) years old by 01 July 2020;
3. Must be medically and physically fit and able to swim;
4. Must attain a score of at least 130 points in Physical Fitness Evaluation (PFE) by performing cadence push ups, and sit ups in two (2) minutes and 2.4 kilometre run within the prescribed time. (Please check USCGA PFE Manual);
5. Single and with no legal dependents;
6. Must have no derogatory records or legal impediments;
7. Must have excellent communication skills;
8. Must be proficient in English and Mathematics subjects;
9. Must be at least High School Graduate by 01 June 2020;
10. Must have GWA of ninety percent (90%) and above without grades lower than eight-five percent (85%);
11. Must pass the American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) and English Comprehension Level (ECL) Test; and
12. Must meet the required SAT Score (Math – 600/ Critical Reading – 600) or ACT Score (Math – 26 / English – 27).

A copy of the applicants’ ACT or SAT result shall be submitted to the PCG immediately through courier or electronic mail upon receipt.
LANGUAGE TEST
Subject to the result of the SAT or ACT, all interested applicants are required to take the American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) and English Comprehension Level (ECL) Test administered at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City tentatively on the first week of January 2020.
IMPORTANT NOTEs:
1. In order to receive an International Cadet appointment, all applicants MUST be nominated by the PCG and MUST agree to render eight (8) year government service in the PCG. The USCG Academy cannot and will not accept individuals applying without nomination from the PCG, even if those individuals are willing to pay all fees and expenses.
2. Interested applicants shall born all related expenses in taking SAT or ACT exam including registration fee and transportation expenses to the Testing Center. SAT or ACT is administered at various testing centers throughout the country.
3. Only successful passer of SAT and ACT Test will be directed to take American Language Course Placement Test (ALCPT) and English Comprehension Level (ECL) Test. Taking both of these language tests must be coordinated through the PCG or else the applicants will not be entertained.
