PCG: Three fishermen were rescued by the Coast Guard after they were reported missing while on fishing venture off the coast in Southern Leyte last Sunday, 02 September.
The rescued fishermen were identified as Jomar Anajao (22 y.o.), and two minors, both age 15 all residents of Barangay Fatima, Liloan, Southern Leyte.
According to reports received in the Coast Guard Action Center, said fishermen were last seen on 01 September at around 9PM two nautical miles away from vicinity waters off Barangay Candayuman, Liloan.
0n 02 September, Coast Guard Sub Station Liloan personnel and Coast Guard K-9 team conducted search and rescue operation from Barangay San Roque to Barangay Caligangan, Liloan but yielded with negative result. At around 2PM on the same day, while transiting at Cabalian Bay, the team sighted the fishermen onboard a non-motorized boat. The Coast Guard immediately towed the boat from said bay enroute to Barangay San Roque, Liloan
Further investigation revealed that the three fishermen departed Barangay Candayuman, Liloan onboard their unmotorizedboat on September 01 at around 8PM. Unfortunately, said fishermen encountered big waves and strong winds due to thunderstorms prevailing in the area and drifted to Cabalian Bay. However, they managed to paddle their banca and took shelter to the nearest shoreline. They decided to conduct minor repair of the damages incurred in their banca and continue paddling back to Liloan before they were found by the local Coast Guard.
