PCG: Five fishermen were successfully rescued by the United States Navy Ship ““Wally Schirra” at the vicinity waters off South West of Scarborough Shoal after five days of drifting last Tuesday, October 09.
Upon receipt of information from the Duty Operator of Subic Port Control Mr Ebner Alberto, the team immediately proceeded on the said area onboard PCG’s Diesel Fast (DF)-313 to fetch the rescued fishermen from the US Navy Ship. The survivors were safely transferred to the craft and subsequently brought to Coast Guard Station Subic for immediate medical attention and investigation.
Investigation revealed from the fishermen namely Mr. Jimmy Batiller, 42 years old; Mr. Jully Ojeda, 43 years old; Mr Abel Lim, 28 years old; Mr Arkei Gantala, 25 years old; and Mr Lourence Asis, 22 years old, all residents of Purok 6, Brgy. Calapacuan, Subic, Zambales that at about 7PM last October 03, their fishing boat “J&J” was hit by about 70-80 kilos blue marlin which caused it to submerge. They survived by using empty gallons and styrofoam as floating devices
The fishermen were properly turned-over to their respective families in good physical condition.
