PCG: Two Filipino fishermen who were rescued in Vietnam last 24 December 2016 and scheduled for repatriation arrived in the Philippines today.

The crew of ill-fated Fishing banca “Shermaine" were identified as Severino Noveras Camposano, 44 years old and Villardo C Ruz Jr, 35 years old, both residents of Salcedo, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro were reportedly rescued by a Vietnamese fishing boat with markings PY 95021 TS.

According to Camposado, they went on a fishing venture last 18 December 2016 in Lubang Island, Mindoro when their fishing banca was battered by strong waves which caused the boat to capsize and submerge. They were floating at sea for seven days before they were found by the Vietnamese nationals and then brought to Phú Yên Province, Vietnam where they were given medical assistance.

The PCG Action Center in Manila has been coordinating with the Philippine Embassy Hanoi, Vietnam with regards to the repatriation of the two rescued fishermen while under the custody of the Honorary Consul in Phú Yên. Moreover, they were then brought to Ho Chi Min City for the arrangement of documents for repatriation.  

Subsequently, they were then welcomed by their families as they arrived in Manila safely and in good condition.  Both families proceeded in Batangas prior their return in Mindoro.
