The Philippine Coast Guard, through the Office of the Deputy Chief of Coast Guard Staff for Marine Environmental Protection, CG-9 conducted a two (2)-day seminar on Environmental Laws and Rules of Procedures for Environmental Cases at the Hub @ Kilometer Zero, Manila on 26-27 October 2015 together with Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Honorable Lucas P Bersamin and Honorable Diosdado M Peralta as guest lecturers.

The seminar was participated by Philippine Coast Guard officers and non-officers from the Marine Environmental Protection Command, Maritime Security and Law Enforcement Command, and Coast Guard Legal Service.

Justice Bersamin gave a lecture on the Rules of Procedure for Environmental Cases: Civil Procedure and explained the rules governing in civil, criminal, and special civil actions in different trial courts, as well as appellate courts.

Likewise, Associate Justice Peralta gave a lecture on the Rules of Procedure for Environmental Cases: Criminal Procedure and discussed the rules of procedure for environmental procedure and the revised rules of criminal procedure in comparison such as prosecution of civil actions, arrest, and search and seizure.

Said seminar was conducted purposely to provide the PCG personnel a continuing education of PCG personnel with the civil and criminal rules of procedure for environmental cases in line with the Coast Guard’s mandate in maritime law enforcement and marine environmental protection.
