PCG: Elements of the Philippine Coast Guard in General Santos City continue searching for a Filipino seafarer who mysteriously went missing onboard Liberian-registered container vessel M/V Hansan Rotenburg.

Ordinary Seaman (OS) Louie Janus J. Caňon was reported missing last Wednesday, November 11.

According to Jover Bayani, representative of Eagle Express Line Inc., A/B Mark Soledad went to Caňon's cabin to call him for duty, but the victim was nowhere to be found. Ship board search also yielded negative results.

M/V Hansan Rotenburg changed her course and conducted search and rescue operations, but likewise yielded negative results. The master of the vessel has made coordination to Coast Watch South based in Zamboanga to seek further assistance.

The vessel proceeded to her next port of call in Makar Wharf, General Santos while the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) GenSan advised its master to file a Marine Protest to report the missing crew.

PCG has also sent out a notice to mariners to all vessels transiting in the area to be on the look-out of the missing crew and to report the nearest Coast Guard unit, if sighted.
