DOTC-PCG: A female green sea turtle measuring sixteen and a half (16 ½) centimeters in width, twenty-two (22) centimeters in length and weighing sixteen (16) kilograms was released at vicinity waters of Palaui Island last Monday, March 16, 2015 by joint activity of personnel from Coast Guard Sub-Station San Vicente under Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon-Coast Guard Station Aparriand Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources (MENRO) in San Vicente, Sta Ana, Cagayan.

The sea turtle commonly known as “Pawikan” and considered as endangered marine species by the DENR was rescued from being trapped in a fishnet by two (2) local fishermen from Sta Ana, Cagayan last March 10, 2015 in SitioPasiquit, San Vicente, Sta Ana, Cagayan. Said fishermen immediately recovered the trapped sea turtle and was later turned-over to Coast Guard Sub-Station San Vicente (CGSS San Vicente) for proper disposition.

Personnel of said Sub-station immediately coordinated to MENRO,Sta Ana, Cagayan for flipper tagging and release.

Presently, CGSS San Vicente and MENRO Officials were strengthening their endeavor in protecting marine species especially endangeredsea turtles found in their area of responsibility.
