PCG: No signs of oil spill were found within the vicinity waters where MV Alam Manis ran aground yesterday, according to reports made by the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Salomague.

Nonetheless, oil spill boom equipment was provided by the Philippine Coast Guard to prevent any possibility of such incidents.

Further investigation conducted by CGS Salomague revealed that MV Alam Manis was enroute to China to deliver its cargo of nickel ore.

The distressed vessel was battered by huge swells that drenched its cargo, causing the vessel to lose its stability. While on its way to San Fernando, La Union to seek shelter, the ship was again battered by rough seas until it listed and eventually ran aground.

MV Alam Manis subsequently drifted off to Barangay Patpata, Candon where its master Capt. Orlando Cabalatungan declared abandonship.

20 crew members were rescued by escort tug MT Salviscount. However, C/M Henry Libo-on passed away due to heart attack.

The survivors and casualty were transported to Poro Point, San Fernando, La Union as per instruction of LTJG Marwin Del Rosario, CGS Salomague Commander. Accordingly, their families were awaiting their arrival thereat.
