PCG: Four crew members of a cargo ship anchored in Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga were rescued by elements of the Philippine Coast Guard last Saturday, April 26.
According to reports of Capt. Heriberto Nalzaro of MV Amelia, four of his crew rented a motor boat to go ashore but during its way back to the ship, the boat accidentally capsized leaving the passengers drifting towards Paseo Del Mar.
Upon receipt of said information, the personnel of Coast Guard Station (CGS) Zamboanga dispatched its DF-314 to rescue the distressed crew members.
The team spotted the victims clinging to the capsized motor boat and rescued them from the rough seas. They were also given first aid treatment.
The survivors sustained no injuries and upon recovery, they have decided to proceed to their sister ship, MV Ever Queen of Emila presently moored at Zamboanga City Pier to rest for the night.
The survivors are all residents of Baliwasan Seaside, Zamboanga City and were identified as follows:
Genel dela Cruz 23 years old (Oiler)
Linbert ray Ecuba 20 years old (Clearing Officer)
Christian B Enot 20 years old (Apprentice Mate)
Lorenzo Caballero 63 years old (operator of the rented banca)
The damaged motorbanca was towed by DF-314 to Zamboanga City Pier.
