PCG: Joint team of Coast Guard Station (CGS) San Fernando and Task Force Sagip Karagatan apprehended two fishermen for illegal fishing along the vicinity waters of Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando, La Union last May 22, Thursday.

The padas, comparable to anchovies were illegally caught by fishermen identified as Florendo Laurea and Federico Casuga.

According to Dolores C. Gurtiza of the Agriculture Office in San Fernando, illegal fishing activities are rampant at the said barangay.

Immediately, the joint team proceeded to said area and apprehended the two fishermen. Other fishermen managed to escape, however.

The apprehended fishermen violated the City Fishery Ordinance Number 2009-009 Section 54 Article IX, known as “Fishing with the use of Fine Meshed Nets” and Section 45 of Article VII, also known as “Prohibition on the Gathering of Padas during the Month of May, June and July”.

The apprehending team also confiscated two fine meshed nets which were likewise turned-over to the City Agriculturist Office while the fishermen were brought to local police in San Fernando for interrogation.
