PCG: MV Pacific, a Panamanian registered cruise ship, accidentally ran aground 150 meters off the shoreline of Barangay Bula in General Santos City last Friday, December 12.

The vessel, manned by 21 Indian seafarers, was due for ship breaking in Vahavnagar, India and was supposedly bound for Singapore from Mexico when it ran low of bunker fuel. 

The ship master was forced to proceed to General Santos around 12:40PM for bunkering but unfortunately ran aground while underway. 

The personnel of Port State Control Gensan (PSC) boarded said vessel and found out that the incident was properly coordinated by the captain to their ship owner.

Accordingly, they will be hiring the Harbor Star to extract the 23,149 GT vessel from its aground area. The master guaranteed to the Coast Guard that all remedies will be exhausted to lessen the possible damage that may be caused by the movement of the ship as strong currents drag it to the shoreline.

It was likewise noted that there is a small possibility of oil spill as MV Pacific has no more bunker fuel left on its tanks and it only has 12,000 liters of diesel oil onboard.
