Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Admiral George V Ursabia Jr urges PCG officers and personnel to value their spouse and children in honor of God and to gain the respect of their subordinates, peers, and senior officers.
Said guidance is communicated in front of the 18 newly-promoted ‘Captains’ of the PCG at the National Headquarters, Port Area, Manila on Friday, 05 February 2021.
“Let us value our spouse and children because they have sacrificed so much for us to reach this far in our career. Hindi lang tayo ang nagsasakripisyo. Let us not ignore their efforts. We have to take care of our relationship with our spouse and children,” Admiral Ursabia exhorted.
Moreover, the Coast Guard Commandant shared he is fully aware of the temptations in service, particularly among officers and personnel who are deployed in far-flung areas, spending months or even years away from their families.
“As long as you have strong faith in God, you can counter temptations. All you have to do is to pray and think about your families whenever you are tempted. I am telling you this because I do not want you to stumble in your family lives as you pursue advancement in your career,” the Coast Guard Admiral said.
Furthermore, Admiral Ursabia enjoined the newly-promoted ‘Captains’ and their loved ones to take part in enhancing the PCG by nurturing their families – the basic unit of the society – for work becomes easier and more fulfilling to those who have good family relationships.
“If we want the Philippine Coast Guard to become a better organization, let us put premium on our families. Let us be matured, discerning, and mindful of our character, not only as a public servant, but more so as a spouse and a parent,” he noted.
