The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) swiftly responded to an aground vessel, LCT Golden Phoenix in the vicinity waters off San Miguel Bay, Brgy. Matandang, Siruma, Camarines Sur on 07 August 2025.

Through this undertaking, Coast Guard District Bicol (CGDBCL) Commander, Commodore Ivan Roldan PCG, reiterated the District's commitment to the vision of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. in ensuring maritime safety, protecting the marine environment, and responding quickly and effectively to any emergency situations that may arise within its area of responsibility.

According to the report, upon receipt of a call from an unknown number of Coast Guard Mobile Team Siruma which is under Coast Guard Station Camarines Sur, the team immediately proceeded to the area to verify the incident and coordinated with concerned parties.

Initial attempts to conduct a full inspection were deferred due to unfavorable sea conditions. The ship’s captain and shipping company representatives have since taken immediate action, including arranging for a hull inspection by divers and preparing necessary documentation for maritime procedures.

Follow-up investigations was conducted by Coast Guard Sub Station Tamban together with Coast Guard Mobile Team Siruma, and the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Reponse Group Bicol (MEP ERG BCL), revealing that the incident transpired due to strong winds and currents in vicinity. Further, the vessel was also reportedly carrying construction materials when the incident occurred.

All 13 Filipino crew members onboard said vessel were declared safe and in good health, with no reported injuries or casualties.

"The team has also coordinated with local barangay officials and the vessel’s representatives to ensure proper reporting and compliance with maritime safety requirements. The situation remains under monitoring, and no oil spill or environmental damage has been reported as of this release," the CGDBCL furthered.
