The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in coordination with local authorities, successfully rescued three crew members aboard a distressed sailing yacht "Annie Kim" near the waters off Barangay Binakas, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro on 13 November 2024.
The PCG Sub-Station (CGSS) Lubang received information about the yacht in distress on 11 November 2024. Upon receiving the report, CGSS Lubang promptly coordinated with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Lubang and immediately launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation.
After receiving a distress report on 11 November 2024, PCG Sub-Station Lubang, in coordination with local authorities, launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation. The yacht, partially submerged due to severe weather, was located approximately 70 meters from the shore.
The three crew members, two Filipinos and one Korean, had already evacuated to a hired motorized banca and were safely transferred to a sea ambulance.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the yacht had departed from Puerto Princesa, Palawan, bound for Subic, Zambales. En route, the crew encountered severe weather, including strong winds and large waves, which caused the vessel to drift into shallow, rocky waters near Barangay Binakas.
Onboard the yacht were two Filipino crew members and one Korean national, all of whom were safely escorted by the SAR team and PDRRMO personnel to the Port of Lubang. Upon arrival, the crew members were evaluated by the MDRRMO medical team and were found to be in stable condition.
The grounded yacht was successfully towed to Sitio Tumibo, Barangay Tangal, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, on 13 November 2024 with the use of empty drums provided by MDRRMO.
