The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) condemns the recent killing of 23-year-old CG Apprentice Seaman (ASN) Angelo V Martinez of the PCG District Southern Tagalog by an unidentified gunman in Sual, Pangasinan on 11 January 2022.

PCG District Southern Tagalog Commander, CG Commodore Genito B Basilio expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family of CG ASN Martinez whom he remembered as a trustworthy staff and a son who set aside his personal plan to fulfill his dreams and aspirations for his parents.

“He will not be able to achieve his dreams and aspirations anymore as he was ruthlessly slayed by a still unknown gunman. Rest in peace, CG ASN Angelo Martinez. My snappy salute to you. Salamat sa serbisyo mo sa bayan, anak,” CG Commodore Basilo furthered.

PCG Spokesperson, CG Commodore Armando A Balilo said that based on the report reaching PCG National Headquarters and from the Philippine National Police (PNP), the shooting incident transpired at Barangay Paitan West Corner Bolaoen Road, Sual, Pangasinan at around 11:45 p.m. on 11 January 2022.

The victim, a resident of Barangay Bolaoen, was having a conversation with the suspect before he was brutally shot on his left mouth. A concerned citizen spotted the victim’s body lying beside his motorcycle and immediately reported the incident to the nearest police station.

The concerned citizen thought the victim was involved in a vehicular traffic accident that was refuted upon verification of the Sual Rescue Team that found two cartridge of caliber 9mm beside the victim’s body.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team from Lingayen, Pangasinan assessed the crime scene and recovered the following: two cartridge case of caliber 9mm, one cellphone, one cigarette butt, and one red motorcycle.

The victim was rushed to the Primary Care Infirmary Facility in Caoayan, Sual Pangasinan and was pronounced ‘Dead on Arrival’ by attending physician, Doctor Mariel Fernando.

The PNP continues its hot pursuit operation to identify and arrest the suspect. The PCG, on the other hand, is also conducting an investigation regarding the incident.
