The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Zamboanga Sibugay seized ₱2.8 million worth of smuggled cigarettes along the shoreline of Purok Sampaloc, Barangay Magdaup, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province on 16 April 2021.
The PCG received an intelligence report that a jungkong type watercraft loaded with smuggled cigarettes departed Zamboanga City enroute to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province.
Immediately, the PCG conducted maritime patrol at said vicinity waters and sighted the watercraft loaded with 80 boxes of smuggled cigarettes docked along the shoreline of Purok Sampaloc.
After confiscating the illegal goods, the team towed the watercraft to the premises of the Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay for temporary custody as it was also found with no Safety, Security and Environmental Numbering System (SSEN) marking.
Meanwhile, the confiscated items were turned-over to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) located at the Port of Zamboanga for investigation and proper disposition.
