The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine National Police – Maritime Group (PNP – MARIG), and several concerned citizens have successfully rescued seven of the 20 missing crewmembers of LCT Cebu Great Ocean at different vicinity waters of Surigao del Norte today, 21 April 2021.

Based on the progress report of the PCG Station Surigao del Norte drafted at around 07:00 a.m., the following survivors were reported:

1) Noli Labucay – rescued by the PCG at Barangay Cayawan, Malimono at around 09:05 p.m. yesterday, 20 April 2021; currently receiving medical assistance at the Malimono Regional Health Unit

2-4) Roger Polo (Chief Mate), Arjie Bacarra, and Joejie Villanueva – rescued by the PCG at Barangay Balite, San Francisco at around 04:30 a.m. today; currently receiving medical assistance at the Caraga Regional Hospital

5) Felipe Quebuen – assisted by a concerned citizen at around 06:19 a.m. today, 21 April 2021; currently receiving medical assistance at the Caraga Regional Hospital

6) John Renzo Guanzon – assisted by a local resident of Malimono at around 06:00 a.m. today, 21 April 2021; currently receiving medical assistance at the Malimono Regional Health Office

7) Unidentified crewmember – found by the PCG at around 05:30 a.m. today, 21 April 2021 at Barangay Jubgan, San Francisco

Furthermore, the following casualties were also reported:

8 ) Norman Galon – found by the residents along the shoreline of Barangay Balite, San Franciso; currently waiting for funeral service

9) Unidentified crew – found by the residents along the shoreline of Barangay Jubgan, San Francisco; verified by the PCG and PNP – MARIG on board PNP – MARIG fast boat

10) Unidentified crew – found by the residents along the shoreline of Barangay Jubgan, San Francisco; verified by the PCG and PNP – MARIG on board PNP – MARIG fast boat

As of 01:00 p.m., the PCG and PNP – MARIG continue their search and rescue (SAR) operations to look for other missing crewmembers. The PCG also deployed a land mobility vehicle that conducts patrol operations along the shorelines of Malimono and San Francisco.

Meanwhile, several PCG personnel continue to provide assistance to the survivors at the Malimono Regional Health Unit and the Caraga Regional for their speedy recovery. They are also on standby for the swift admission and provision of medical care to other survivors who will be rescued.
