The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to build Very High Frequency (VHF) Radio Repeater in Mapun, Tawi-Tawi to enhance communication channels in the municipality and nearby coastal communities, such as Taganak Island.

On 23 June 2021, personnel of the Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Command (CGWCEISC) in Southwestern Mindanao and Coast Guard Northern Tawi-Tawi inspected the 506-square-meter land area located at Barangay Tabulian that will be utilized for said infrastructure project.

Barangay Kagawad Rahim Suhara Baiddin of Barangay Sapa, Mapun, Tawi-Tawi donated the lot in support of the PCG's vision to intensify maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection in the Southernmost part of the Philippines.
