Municipal Mayor Maryam Arbison of Luuk, Sulu commended the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), under the leadership of Commandant, Admiral George V Ursabia Jr, for intensifying Coast Guard presence and extending humanitarian service to the residents of Luuk.

“I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for all the efforts that you have put into in helping the Municipality of Luuk. We are truly honored to receive such great support from the good Admiral. With all humility, we thank you for touching the lives of the residents of Luuk through your strong and compassionate leadership,” Mayor Arbison said in a letter sent to the Office of the Commandant yesterday, 24 June 2021.

“I hope that the goodness of your heart and your unwavering commitment to serve the Filipinos will inspire more leaders to make a difference in our nation,” the Luuk Mayor furthered.

On 23 June 2021, Admiral Ursabia visited Luuk, Sulu to formally activate another PCG Base in the province — the Coast Guard Station Eastern Sulu.

Admiral Ursabia said he envisioned Luuk to be a booming tourist destination in the future. Hence, the PCG established a unit in the municipality to work side by side with the LGU for the development of marine transportation and promotion of maritime tourism.

Moreover, the PCG team turned over boxes of medicines and medical supplies to uphold the health and safety of the locals, especially amid the ongoing pandemic.
