A total of 500 mangrove propagules were planted by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Davao Oriental in a five-hectare mangrove forest located at Sitio Butuasan, Barangay Dahican, Mati City, Davao Oriental yesterday, 30 June 2021.
Personnel from the Marine Environmental Protection Unit - Southeastern Mindanao and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) also supported the initiative.
Following its commitment to rehabilitate said mangrove forest when it accepted the "ADOPT-A-MANGROVE" program of the DENR, the PCG Station Davao Oriental said it will continue to support mangrove reforestation to maintain and protect the established plantation in Mati City.
The PCG works side by side with the DENR in taking good care of mangrove forests across the country to provide breeding habitats for marine animals, build natural coastal defense against storm surges, and help mitigate the effects of global warming.
