In preparation for the arrival of two units of 97-meter multi-role response vessel (MRRV) from Japan in 2022, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) has spearheaded a workshop on vessel strategic operation and maintenance planning for the men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) via virtual modality yesterday, 06 August 2021.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) commissioned JCG to train selected PCG officers and personnel, specifically those who are directly involved in the operations, ships and aircraft engineering, and Coast Guard Surface Support Force units headed by its Commander, Rear Admiral Allan Victor T Dela Vega.

JCG Commander Chikara Kurata, JICA Expert for the PCG, also joined the online workshop.

During the virtual activity, the JCG discussed the formulation of operation plan and conduct of maintenance for its floating assets. For its part, the PCG shared an overview regarding its current operations status on the mentioned subjects.

With the vast experience of JCG in operating large fleet of patrol vessels, the workshop allowed PCG officers and personnel to acquire knowledge and best practices in enhancing its capability in operating and maintaining existing and upcoming vessels β€” thereby improving its performance in upholding maritime security, maritime law enforcement, and maritime search and rescue.
