The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Sub-station Camiguin responded to a maritime incident involving a motorbanca that accidentally damaged its rudder while underway to Camiguin Island, Calayan, Cagayan on 07 November 2021.

Upon receipt of the information, the PCG team immediately launched a search and rescue (SAR) operations to assist the nine passengers of the distressed motorbanca who were identified as employees of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

They departed from Barangay Poblacion, Calayan, Cagayan going to Barangay Balatubat, Camiguin Island to distribute cash assistance to the indigent senior citizens of Barangay Balatubat, Barangay Naguilan, and Barangay Minabel.

The SAR team carefully transferred the passengers to the rescue boat and towed the distressed motorbanca to the shoreline of Sitio Mambit, Barangay Balatubat, Camiguin Island, Cagayan for needed repairs.

The rescued passengers disembarked in good physical condition and were able to proceed to their destination.
