The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Surigao del Norte has responded to a maritime incident involving four passengers and one boat operator of a half-submerged motorbanca at the vicinity waters off Kabo Island, Surigao City at around 02:15 p.m. on Saturday, 04 December 2021.

Despite the suspension of voyages due to the issued gale warning, MBCA “Jimboy” still departed from Barangay Buenavista, Surigao City going to Barangay Balibayon, Surigao City.

While underway, it encountered strong winds and big waves that damaged its middle stern portion.

The PCG team brought the rescued individuals who were all in good physical condition to the PCG Station Surigao del Norte for investigation and further assistance. They were also urged not to venture out into the sea during inclement weather to avoid similar maritime incidents in the future.
