This is an UPDATE regarding the maritime incident involving MV FILIPINAS CEBU that ran aground in the vicinity waters between Igbon Island and Agho Island in Concepcion, Iloilo at around 12:08 a.m. yesterday, 09 August 2022.

Based on the investigation, the said RoRo / passenger vessel of the Cokaliong Shipping Lines departed from Port San Pedro Pier, Iloilo City bound for Tinago Port, Cebu City.

According to MV FILIPINAS CEBU’s master, the helmsman (person who steers the ship) fell asleep while underway, causing the vessel to run aground.

The crew inspected the hull for possible ingress of seawater and yielded negative result.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) advised the vessel’s master file a marine protest aboard the PCG Station Iloilo.

Meanwhile, MV FILIPINAS NASIPIT, the sister vessel of MV FILIPINAS CEBU that was instructed by the concerned shipping company to ferry the passengers to their port of destination, arrived at Tinago Port, Cebu City at around 03:25 a.m. today, 10 August 2022.

The 223 passengers disembarked the said vessel safely.
