As one of its pre-anniversary activities, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)'s Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC) spearheaded the planting of 3,000 mangrove propagules in Tondo, Manila on 13 September 2022.

Approximately 100 volunteers supported the said marine environmental protection initiative.

During the activity, MSSC Commander, CG Rear Admiral Joseph Coyme, emphasized the importance of mangroves in addressing global warming as they form a buffer zone or coastal defense during rising sea level and flash floods.
